POSITION PURPOSE:
Under limited supervision, performs a variety of professional work to assist in the coordination of activities of the Student Support Services Department. Work involves function as a consultant to schools and implementing services to impact students’ academic, social-emotional, and career development. Employee is responsible for developing, supporting, reviewing, managing, and maintaining a professional sound and effective school counseling services for all students at all sites. Work is guided by and must be in compliance with national, state, and local ethical practices and guidelines. Employee must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in the performance of assignments.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated knowledge of the ASCA National Model
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local policies and procedures regarding School Counseling
- Considerable knowledge of school board policies and procedures
- Considerable knowledge of current trends, publications, research and laws pertaining to HIPPA and FERPA.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate confidential records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information
- Ability to develop and implement appropriate programs for School Counseling
- Ability to assess the effectiveness of programs and activities
- Ability to interpret educational policies and procedures
- Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing
- Ability to make oral presentations before large groups of people
- Ability to use a computer and current word processing programs, create spreadsheets, and access online tools
- Ability to navigate online tools such as Powerschool, Naviance, SCUTA, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in school counselor education or related field
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess or be eligible to possess a valid 005 Counselor license
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the NC Department of Motor Vehicles
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Two (2) to five (5) years successful experience serving as a school counselor in a public-school setting
- Spanish Speaking
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide updates on school counseling issues.
- Deliver school counseling services at school site.
- Provide case consultation as needed
- Attend monthly school counselor meetings and school counselor committee meetings.
- Manage monthly school counselor documentation.
- Implement process to identify student mental health support needs.
- Participate in evaluation of program through collection and review of data. Work with staff to meet the shared goals and mission of the Student Support Services Department.
- Deliver services consistent with guidelines for professional practice and code of ethics, and that they adhere to relevant laws, policies and lines of authority.
- Interface with school personnel and parents to provide information and assistance pertaining to school counseling services.
- Work with school counseling training programs to provide practicum and internship opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students who may become.
